This chapter focused on literacy within English learners.

Developing Literacy with English Learners

In this chapter we learned about a variety of interactive writing types...

- Message Boards: Bulletin boards (encourage learners to use the board to communicate)

- Interactive/Dialogue Journals: help learners think about the meaning and critical think about ideas

- Content Learning Logs: help learners remember what they are learning, they can keep notes while working

- Literacy Journals: students can write brief reviews of the books

We also read about the steps to a writing process. These can be used when writing all types of stories and its important to teach these concepts to students to encourage great writing

- pre writing: the first stage in writing where individuals plan out the writing and think about the experiences and ideas to their writing

- drafting: when writers begin putting ideas down on paper

- Sharing and reviewing drafts: thinking about and discussing how they might improve their writing

- Revising: Learners are including ideas and areas of improvements when thinking about and reviewing their draft

- Editing: writers go one more time and polish the piece

- publishing: the very last part of the writing process and this leads to the end of the writing process

We also learned about a variety of ways that teachers can assess writing. They can assess writing throughout checklists and look at handwriting, organization, fluency, and confidence within the writing.

Overall, I gained a lot of knowledge about different ways to teach and help individuals come up with different this to learn and better their writing skills.
