Teacher Zoom Reflection
Mr. Canales met with my TCH 334 class to go over some of the real life things that he experiences while working in a school and class that teaches for billiteracy and works with students who are English Learners. I really thought it was interesting to see how involved Mr. Canales was and is in students life being that he has only been teaching in the school district for one year. I thought it was really interesting to hear the variety of expirecnes that he has underwent in just a short time as a teacher.
He first explains that he is not currently in an ELL classroom. The classroom he is teaching in is primarily students who have tested out of the previous classes. He talked about how he works in teacher team setting though.
Teacher teams is something that we have covered in this course. As a teacher, Mr. Canales works with other teachers to ensure students are getting all of their needs met. As a teacher, Mr. Canales works with all of his fellow faculty to create the best plan of study for students.
We also learned about home visits in TCH 207. I asked Mr. Canales about what they do to involve parents and deal with issues with students. Mr. Canales discussed that his school does do home visits to help students and talk to parents to ensure that everyone understands what is going on. Mr. Canales also explained that due to the past years being online due to COVID, they are having a tough time getting students back into the classroom. I thought this was an interesting point because I Haden't thought about students staying home from school now because it is seen as "easier."
Mr. Canales also talked about some interesting stories that have already happened throughout his teaching.
To sum up his talk, he states that there will always be something new each day and that is what makes teaching the students worth it. This stuck with me because I have always been told "Why become a teacher, you do the same thing everyday." This however is the farthest thing from true and it's nice to hear that come from a teacher as well!
