Technology

Laptops 

• We will use laptops during some lessons, however not all of our lessons will require laptops 

• Recognize the magnet on the whiteboard 

  • If it is flipped to CLOSED ... laptops must remain closed as we will not be using them at that time 

  • If it is flipped to OPEN ... laptops are in use at that time, therefore students may have them open 

• Understand that math class is going to have a lot of group work and discussion with your peers is important, so keeping your laptop closed during discussion will benefit your conversation 

• At no point in class should students be on social media on your laptops 

• If you need a charger or forgot your laptop for that day, you may ask Ms. Shanafelt to go get a loaner from the tech office

Phones

• Math does not require phones, so there should never be a phone out in this math classroom 

• Phones should always be silenced per the school rules. This means that there should be no cell phone noises in the classroom.

• If an instance arises and you need to contact a parent please ask Ms. Shanafelt for permission prior to texting or contacting them

  • ex. Track meet was cancelled, you need a ride after school, you need money in your lunch account ​

Laptops 

• Even though you may have opted to purchase your laptop... Laptops are still school property while you are enrolled in school 

• This means that laptops should be used for school appropriate things 

• Your laptops must remain in their case at all times and one of your school IDs must remain in the cover of the case

• The benefit of the school owning these laptops is that if there are any damages made to or issues with your laptop, the tech office will be able to repair these and supply you with a loaner laptop

I forgot my laptop! What do I do?

• Don't fret, the tech office has loaners they can supply you with for the day

• You may use up to three loaners per quarter 

• If you require more than three loaners per quarter because you have forgotten your laptop at home, then you will be issued a lunch detention 

I forgot to charge my laptop last night!

• Every classroom will have an extra charger or two that you can utilize during class

• If your teacher thinks this is becoming an issue, then you may also receive a lunch detention

Phones

• Phones should be silenced during the class day

• At no point, from the first bell to the last bell, should phones be used, unless authorized by a teacher

• If phones are seen in use, they have the right to be confiscated and will be returned in the office at the end of the day

• If this behavior continues and a phone is turned into the office more than 3 times, then other actions will be taken 

Math is a very discussion based classroom. In class we will use a lot of different technology. For example we will use the whiteboard and the document camera almost every class. However, students will not be required to use their own technology each lesson. In fact, we will rarely use laptops, unless to access online graphing websites or to read articles.
