AH -Ha

  1. "It is antithetical to the intent and spirit of existing anti-discrimination laws."

- A lot of times I feel like individuals think of teaching by critical race theory wrongly. They think that we are trying to talk about certain races and proclaiming that they need to be superior to other races. This is not what is trying to be said. I thought this quote did a great job of explaing that. Instead of placing races as superorior to eachother, we need to understand that unjustness and discrimmination that is in place and we need to live a life and classroom enviornment without that.

2. It is so important to talk about all aspects of certain events and there needs to be an understanding that things don't just happen in the classroom or class environment, but in all aspects of life in all places.

3. This theory teaches kids to become more respectful and understanding rather than leading them to hate their country. I also have heard this as a complaint numerous times.

CONNECTIONS

  1. We have talked about the Critical Race theory a lot. We have learned about the beginning layers of it, but I think this helped answer some of the questions that I had as well as wonderings that I considered when reading about this.

  2. We have also talked about the ideas that not everyone agrees with this understanding and this teaching occurring in the classroom. Some individuals don't want their kids to be exposed to this. The first reading talked about how there is a bill that states the race and slavery and topics following that should not be discussed in the classroom. This was just shocking to me.

QUESTIONS

  1. I still want to know more ways to create and lead in this way, but I always wonder about the backlash from possible parents, co-workers, or even admin.

I agree that we need to teach kids about different things that occur with race, and I agree that we need to teach them to understand our countries history and not hate it because of that. Your question asking how we can lead in this way is very important, I would love to learn about how we can teach our kids in this way.

I also agree that a lot of people thing of CRT as something it really is not. It reminds me of the podcast I listened to for the podcast challenge called Southlake. It had to do with CRT.

I also really wanted to incorporate CRT into my classroom but it seemed like it is getting more frowned upon and its scary being a young teacher and risking getting backlash from parents. I would rather not cause a problem and risk losing my job this early in my career. I do feel like there are some things we can do it slightly incorporate it.
